There are forms of wounding that are easy to name. And then there are the ones that are much harder to see—because they aren’t defined by what happened, but by what didn’t.
In this session, Kathleen Murphy explores emotional neglect as a form of relational wounding that often goes unrecognized. When a child doesn’t receive consistent attention, attunement, or emotional presence, it can create a quiet but lasting sense of disconnection. This may show up later in life as anxiety, people-pleasing, or a persistent feeling of “not enough,” even when there’s no clear reason why.
What makes this kind of experience especially complex is the absence of a clear story. Without a moment to point to, many people struggle to validate their own pain. Instead, they minimize it or feel shame for even having needs at all. This session helps reframe those experiences—not as weakness, but as deeply human responses to unmet relational needs.
Through reflection and practical insight, Kathleen introduces the idea of reparenting—learning to offer yourself the attention, care, and presence that may have been missing. She also explores how healing doesn’t require blame, but rather an honest understanding of impact, capacity, and what it means to care for yourself now.
Kathleen Murphy is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Onsite Clinical Supervisor with over 40 years of experience in healing modalities. She specializes in complex relational wounding, emotional neglect, and helping individuals understand and transform the deeper patterns that shape their sense of self and relationships.
